I believe that border security is one of the preeminent issues facing Texas – and America – today. Each year we spend untold resources dealing with the repercussions of illegal immigration, not to mention the threat to our national security and sovereignty. We must work tirelessly to see that our border is secure, that we penalize employers that hire illegals, and that we do not reward illegal behavior. One of the foremost failures of the 82nd Legislative Session was the unwillingness of our elected officials to pass the anti-sanctuary cities, state implemented e-Verify employment verification checks, and illegal immigration cost analysis bills, which were supported by an overwhelming majority of Texans.
I will author, co-author, and file new legislation that will get Texas serious about protecting our own borders – we can’t wait for the federal government to do the job they are Constitutionally mandated to do. The federal government has proven unwilling and incapable of securing our border – thus, we must do it ourselves. We must protect our border by all means necessary, to include (but not limited to) physical barriers (fences, walls, etc.) where appropriate, aerial surveillance, technological measures, and boots on the ground - bolstering County Sheriffs and Texas State Guard to start. We must also eliminate the magnets of jobs, free food, free education, and free health care for illegal aliens.
